Tactile Membrane Switch

Tactile membrane switches are very popular, because it provides a direct feedback to user that a connection is made.

One way to design a tactile membrane switches is to dome embosses the keys on graphic overlay, which is more common and highly popular. Another design option for a tactile membrane switches is to emboss upper switch layer or polydome.

Typically switches consists of a top and bottom layers of polyester with a tactile actuator that when pressed, momentarily completes the circuit while providing user a degree of response based on the switches construction.

Tactile switches are more closely associated with traditional buttons, because of their distinct snapping action known as ‘user feedback’.

When pressure is applied to the top layer of the membrane switch circuit, it flexes through the punched openings of the spacer to establish electrical contact between conductive pads of the upper and lower sheets, momentarily closing the membrane switch circuit. When pressure is released from the top layer, membrane switches circuit springs back to its normal open position.
